Start Part Time and See How It Goes..

by Geri

Me and my friend are very interested in starting up our own burger van business on the side of our every day jobs.

We are looking to start off doing it at the weekends to see how much potential there is in it first and then if it is worth it doing it full time.

We were just wondering if you had any figures or help you could pass our way to help us get start money wise. How much do you think we would be looking at to get the business started.

We are looking to buy a van itself with the facilities not a trailer as we thought this would be more cost effective.. We would be grateful for any tips you could give to us novices...

Thanks Geri

Hi Geri,

It?s a good idea to start part time and see how the business works for you.

Below are roughly the steps that I took to launch my catering business which includes some prices.

? Market research to make sure that there is a demand for your service in your area

? Take food and hygiene test

? Raise some capital for catering vehicle/van or rent try www.ajc-trailers.co.uk/hire/

? Brought vehicle and started figuring out how all the equipment works. (£3000+pounds, but can get cheaper)

? Sourced great tasting food-Drinks and purchased some stock (£250+pounds)

? Practiced cooking for friends and family to get used to cooking for quantity .

? Got safety check done on LPG equipment (if you own£150+pounds)

? Purchased liability insurance (£150+)

? Rent Catering Pitch which will give you the permission you need to trade(£50-£300+per week depending on how busy pitch will be)

? Register with Environmental Health so that they can visit you and trailer for inspection as you will be selling food to the public

I hope this helps you out, best of luck with your business.

Regards
David
