Mobile Pizza Business - So Much to Think About.

by Dai
(West Wales)

I'm thinking of starting a mobile pizza business, using a catering trailer and as much of the equipment to be gas powered to give me more freedom of where to trade - although I can use a generator if needed.

I'm struggling to find trailers with gas pizza ovens fitted in them, so am looking at 2nd hand gas pizza ovens on eBay, gumtree etc but am unsure of what to buy size wise.

I want to make fresh pizzas but have no experience in catering so it's a bit daunting. Ideally I want to start with minimum investment - £2k to £3k doing evenings and weekends whilst keeping my day job, then expanding if I'm successful. Finding the whole process really exiting but a bit daunting. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Pizza Mobile Catering Business
by: David

Hello Dai,

I think the main stumbling block will be the cost of the Pizza oven, you can get them specifically for mobile catering but they will not be cheap. You are probably looking around £2-£3000+ for quality pizza equipment alone. You may be better off starting with an easier menu choice and using the standard LPG equipment i.e. Griddle, Baine Marie to get started.

Also, Pizza is not really a quick food to prepare and you should seriously consider the type of customer and the pitch location for this to work. This may be more suited to a busy City location, or an event, rather than an everyday (tea, coffee, bacon, sausage sandwich) type of pitch.

You may also try renting a trailer to get started since this will help you get started quicker, don’t forget to start your market research/find pitch since this is where most people stumble when starting.
This post may prove helpful to you.
