Canopy and Ducting Cleaning - Legal Requirement

by Naz
(Glasgow)

Hi,

Just a quick question, we bought a takeaway and we have been advised by the environmental health that we have to have a certificate to show the canopy and ducting has been professionally cleaned.

The canopy and ducting x 2 is not big and my husband and employees tend to clean these themselves.

Is this a legal requirement or can we continue to clean them ourselves as we do this very regularly? The business is based in Scotland.

I look forward to hearing from you.
Thanks

Grease on Canopies
by: David

Hi There,

Yes this is a legal requirement set out by Health and Safety.

The grease on canopies, filters and ductwork is a real fire risk, which can be prevented by using regular specialist cleaning.

Legal Requirements

Health & Safety at work regulations and the Fire Regulations require that those responsible for the workplace must carry out a risk assessment of the grease extraction systems and act upon the results of the risk assessment to eliminate or at the very least minimise the risk of fire

Here is some more info

Hope this helps
