Where is Food Kept Overnight?

by Vinnie

I am a self-employed chef renting a pub kitchen currently and am looking to invest into mobile catering, although I was wondering where food is usually kept overnight when the van isn't running? Many thanks

Food Kept Overnight

Hi Vinnie,

If you have the facilities to park your catering vehicle outside your house then you can just plug it into the mains when you drive home with the food still inside. If this is not the case then you will have to move any food that requires temperature control into a suitable fridge/freezer.

For this you will probably have to register you home as a food business and have it inspected by the EHO like any other food business. If you have a clean, pest free, garage, shed etc you may be able to allocate this space for some of your food business, but it will all depend on your personal circumstances. Contact your local council who will better advise you.

Hope this helps,
David
