What does a mobile catering trailer legally need to have????

by Linda

Hi- really helpful site..Mobile catering appears a bit of a minefield!!!!!!

I'm new to this, but like many people, I'm sick of the employee thing and am thinking of giving mobile baked potatoes a go?? I've seen a trailer

I like and think it's tidy but it only has one sink and no boiler in the unit. I've read a story saying two sinks are required with running hot and cold water.

I’m imagining this is a requirement by environmental health-but don't know!!!!!Could you put me straight as it's ambiguous...also are there any other requirements of the practicalities/setup of the trailer that would prevent trading if not in place/installed as the fixtures and fittings. Many thanx!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Learn How To Cook Burgers? College
by: David-

Hi Baz,

That's a first. As far as I'm aware you only need an up to date F&H certificate and not any qualifications or lessons to cook burgers, sausages etc. I mean this is pretty straightforward, basic food that most people can cook, even at home.

I think you need to ask them where it officially says you need to go to attend collage/course.

I take it there is also a course for tea, coffee, chips etc as well;-)

Be interested to know their official answer
Best,
David

mobile burger van
by: Baz

My nephew has an icecream van with a 5 star rating. He recently purchased a dual icecream/ burger van to cover seasonal demands.
? The council has said he needs to go to a college to learn how to cook bourgers and sausages. He,s an X butcher 42 years old and has been cooking for 25 years. This seams incredible when Turkish and Polish vans operate in the same areas immune to council controls

LPG Equipment Safety Test Certificate
by: Anonymous

Could someone please advise me, I'm about to start trading, but am just waiting for the gas engineer. He has said that we need more vents, switch over valve etc etc. He reckons it will cost around £600, could someone please tell me if this is true or what we do actually need to get a gas certificate

Twin Sinks Are a Must For Your Mobile Cateing Business
by: Anonymous

Hi Linda,

You are correct you do need the 2 sinks and most modern catering trailers and catering vans come equipped with twin sinks. If you soon to buy a trailer make sure you have a pitch to trade on or you could be sitting around for quite some time.

Also when you buy the trailer make sure it comes with a LPG certificate and electric certificate if the unit has electrical equipment installed. This way you won?t have any real problems, with installed fixtures and fittings which may prevent you from trading or falling foul of the law.

Regards
David
