Small Food Unit To Fit On Pavement Site?

We used to have a mobile trailer selling Thai takeaway outside a local pub. But a new landlord wanted to do his own food. We have now sold the trailer, but have been offered a pitch on the pavement outside a nearby shop.

It's a busy spot and we'd be sharing the pitch with a takeaway waffle stall. As there is not much space, there is not enough room for a trailer.

Do you know where we could find a small food unit with ban maries to sell curries/rice from? Or would it be better to cook the food in our home then take them to the pitch. We don't have a very big budgetbudget...

Finding a Small Catering Trailer
by: David

Hi There,

There is a range small catering trailers available but you will need to know the size of the space on the pavement before you start looking. If all you need is a Baine Marie it should not be a too much of a problem finding a small enough trailer.

Also, if you wanted to prepare the food at home in your own kitchen you will have to register your kitchen will the local council who will have to inspect and approve the kitchen.

Be aware that they are likely to ask you to make some changes to meet their safety standards before they will give you the go ahead. The only other way around this is to hire or borrow a commercial kitchen which will already have met these standards. . This article on making sandwiches from home kitchen may be helpful

I understand that you are on a tight budget so it may also be worth considering renting a small unit until the business takes off and you are in a better financial position.

Best of luck and please do keep us updated.

David
