Market Research for Mobile Catering Business

Hiya David

Im off out tomorrow to do my market research, I have it all ready so I am going to drive around a few industrial estates and see what my competition is.

With the hygeine certificate, does it last forever or does it need updating every so often? As if it only lasts 12 months I will look at doing it just before setting the business up.

Also I have been thinking, to keep costings down, could I just take phone orderd for my potatoes, make them in the house and then deliver them? or can you not make food from your own home?

Hi Nicola,

The food and hygiene certificate last around 3 yrs after which time you will have to take a refresher course. With regards to keeping cost down, you can prepare and cook food from home but again will have to register with the local council who will inspect, and may also ask you to make modifications to the your kitchen.

It probably needs to be on a scale of that of any other commercial kitchen. Not sure how much hassle or extra cost is involved, but if it's something you really want to do, then by all means look into it.
