Concerned About Being Ripped Off Buying a Catering Van - Trailer

Hi David,

I have been reading some of the comments from
people who have been ripped off both through eBay and privately and must admit I'm quite surprised how often it seems to happen.

I thought I had covered myself quite well so rather than passing over a substantial amount of money for someone to buy and convert a van for me.

I have purchased a van myself (which I'm very pleased with) and sourced and bought the larger expensive items myself which I shall take to the man who is doing the conversion.

However, the closer the date comes for the conversion 15/8/11 I am starting to worry that it’s just as easy to sell my equipment if that is what in fact the man wants to do if he were to be a con man.

How can I be sure that this man is kosher, I have been to a workshop that he says is his, also he has what seems to be a very professional website. Is there anything else I could do to protect what will be everything I have (financially) that equates to nearly £15k.

Kind regards

Sonia

Hello

Most reputable van conversion companies are members of NCASS, you could check to see if they are members.

Don't Get Ripped Off - Get References
by: David

Hi Sonia,

Just take the same precautions as you would when you use any service. Ask to see at least 3 current completed conversions, ask for the phone number of previous clients and then call and speak with them. Don't just take someone?s word on it; this is a good indicator on how honest or how good a job this person has done. If he is hesitant for any reason you may need to ask yourself why!

Any good business will be willing to accommodate your request if they have nothing to hide.

Hope this helps, let us know how you get on.

Regards
David
