Catering Liability Insurance

Hi There,

I've just recently purchased a Tuktuk potato van, I'm just a little confused about the insurances required. I know I need public liability insurance, but do I also need product liability cover too.

Also, I'm hoping if I get busy enough to get help from friends/ family, so would I need employees insurance too?

Or for Liability insurance: Public Liability Insurance

Get as many quotes as possible, then decide the best option for you.

Use specialising companies otherwise it costs a fortune. I use 'Mobilers' and theirs is affordable and it includes employers stuff as well. I use them for my catering van insurance as well.
No, I do not work them... : )

Hi Laura,

Congratulations on your recent purchase. To keep things simple you are required by law to only have employee’s liability insurance to cover people who work for you, including if those people are family and friends.

Even though it’s not a legal requirement it’s recommended that you also have public liability insurance to cover any injury to the public or their property, most even organisers/councils will also want to see that you are trading with public liability insurance.

As for product liability insurance this is not really required for mobile catering as it’s mainly covers defective/faulty products and is more aimed at manufacturers.
