Hi , I have a candy floss machine and I would like to operate from home ,actually from my front garden. Do I need any licence apart from the food hygiene certificate?

Power
by: Anonymous

From experience forget using a genny, the candy floss machine takes a lot of power when starting, initial draw for the motor and the heating band, it must also be used on a 13 Amp outlet which is SOLELY used for it. Popcorn machine takes next to nothing. I have LOST Hundreds of ££££'s when an organiser has said "Oh it's a big commercial generator lot's of power." Only to find it is used by the Bouncy castle and bar as well as the stage as well, Candy floss, popcorn, and slush, SHOULD have made £300 at least , came away with £60. Not good. ;-( .Brian

Hi, I to have a candy floss machine, a good place to make money is at school fairs as they supply the power & kids love it. At the moment that's all I do, if you are interested in maybe looking at doing something together let me know. Thanks Julie

Candy Floss Business

Hi Chrissie,

In most cases the event organiser will usually supply electric/mains current as part of the pitch fee. If this is not the case you will then need to supply your own electricity by means of a generator.

Depending on the combined power consumption of both pop corn and candy floss machines, you will need to find/hire a generator with enough power to run both machines.

If you can find out the combined power consumption for both machines, you can then calculate what size generator you will need.

Equipment will need to be P.A.T tested to make sure it all works okay and it's not going to cause a hazard to anyone.

This post has a link to a generator calculator to give you an idea of what size of generator will be needed: What Size Generator Do I Need

Hope this info helps,

Best of luck
