Can I Use a Domestic Cooker Hood Food Trailer


Hi
I have a lincat 8 litre lpg fryer in my horse trailer. Can I install an electric domestic hood above it and use it for ventilation?

While it might seem convenient to use a regular domestic electric hood, it's not the best idea for your Lincat 8 litre LPG fryer. Here’s why:

Domestic hoods are designed for kitchens at home, not for the kind of heavy cooking you do with an LPG fryer. They usually can't handle the high heat and thick grease that comes off when frying food. This means they might not pull out all the smoke, fumes, and grease, which can be a safety issue.

Safety and Regulations:

In mobile catering, it's very important to follow strict safety and hygiene rules. A commercial-grade hood is built to meet these rules, as it’s designed for kitchens where lots of frying and cooking happen. A domestic hood might not meet these standards and could even be a fire hazard.

Long-Term Performance:
Even if a domestic hood works for a little while, over time it could struggle with the grease buildup, reducing its effectiveness. A commercial hood is made to keep running well even in busy kitchens.

What Should You Do?

It’s best to invest in a commercial-grade ventilation hood. This type is designed to handle heavy cooking, will meet safety standards, and is more likely to keep your working area clean and safe.
