Which Comes First The Pitch Or The Trailer

by Ali
(Manchester)

Hi there,

I am starting a artisan street catering business and have decided I will invest in a catering trailer as well as work at street food festivals/markets. I was wondering if I need to secure a pitch before getting a trailer, I am afraid of buying a trailer and not having anywhere to trade from. Also can you tell me how I go about finding a pitch in Manchester.

Many Thanks

Pitch Or The Trailer

Hello Ali,

I would always aim to find the pitch first; this way you have some security and peace of mind before you start spending time, money and effort looking for a catering vehicle. Also, if you can’t find a suitable catering vehicle after securing a pitch the option to rent a catering vehicle is always available to you. As for getting a pitch in Manchester, this is something you will have to seek out in your local area.

Start by compiling a list of potential locations, e.g. Industrial estates, car parks, pub car parks, car boot etc and then make contact with the landowners to see if you can get permission to trade. Try contacting the local council to see if they have any street trading spots available.

Wishing you the best of luck.
David
