Clarification of Gas Safety requirements?

by Sam
(Kent)

Hi David,

I am in the process of doing up a trailer and I have one appliance that needs connecting to an LPG cylinder. I heard somewhere that a single appliance with a connection straight to it doesn't require a gas safety check, is this the case?

Also, I plan to use a camping stove which use the butane gas cartridges as a back up in the case of an emergency. Would these devices need to be checked by a gas safe engineer before use?

Kind Regards,
Sam

Gas Safety Requirements
by: Brian

Hi Sam,

The use of gas in commercial catering trailers requires inspection every 6-12 months, as assessed by the operator based on it's use.

The number of appliances does not affect the requirement, all gas work must be carried out by a competent person as defined by the HSE. The installation must comply with UKLPG code of practice 24 part 3.

The use of unfixed gas appliances inside the catering area is not recommended, the manufacturers instructions usually state for outdoor use.

Best of luck,
Brian
